That Old Testy God

How often have you read or heard from others that I can perhaps put up with Jesus but that Old Testament God,well He is a nasty piece of work . Full of wrath, vengeance ,hate ,well you get the picture. Those who do so paint with such a broad brush and then cheery pick text , often out of context , to try and prove their misguided point.

So I would like to share one of the my favorite passages from that old testy God that speaks grace and hope to this repenting sinner everyday.`

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
  they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
                                         (Lamentations 3:22-23 ESV)

When I reflect on my day and think of how many times I have blown it or failed to do what I should have done , I'm thankful that as I turn in humility and repentance to God through Christ , I can trust in His love,His mercies each and everyday. This is not a licence to live as we want , sinning and then going hey , we will just repent each day , but a call to live a life of repentance and trust in the finished work of Jesus Christ. In reality to make this promise your own will breath new life into your pilgrimage .

So much for that "Old Testy" Deity !

The problem with separating the Old Testy God from Jesus is that you can't. They're one and the same. John1:1 says "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
Leviticus 16 is the account of the Day of Atonement. It describes the purification and sacrifices that had to be made by Aaron, once a year for the sins of the people. When I read these accounts, I am reminded of how sinful human beings are in relation to God. The fact that He is as patient as He is should fill us with a sense of awe.
All of these sacrifices were a foreshadowing of the ultimate sacrifice that Jesus made for our sins. John 1:29 says, "The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!" We're all a bunch of sinners. Christ made, whom He chooses, fit to enter His kingdom. Before you refer to the Old Testament God, in a negative way, stop a moment and look in the mirror. Without Jesus, now that's a nasty piece of work. Love you, Mrs Reg
