In honor of John Stott who went home to be with his Lord this week at the age of 90.( 27 April 1921 – 27 July 2011)
Every time we look at the cross Christ seems to say to us, “I am here because of you. It is your sin I am bearing, your curse I am suffering, your debt I am paying, your death I am dying.” Nothing in history or in the universe cuts us down to size like the cross. All of us have inflated views of ourselves, especially in self-righteousness, until we have visited a place called Calvary. It is here, at the foot of the cross that we shrink to our true size. To understand what John Stott is talking about read John 18-20.
John 18 is about the betrayal, arrest and trial of Jesus. John 19 is the account of the crucifixion. If you really want to be blown away, read Isaiah 53 first. All I will say is this. If Jesus was just a man how did He influence the prophecy in Isaiah to so accurately follow what happened to Him?
If He is the Holy One of God, as I know to be true, than John 20 is our only hope for salvation. May you be blessed by what you read. Love you, Mrs Reg
