In Canada we are soon to be knee deep in politicians at the door. An election has been called for May in Canada. So we will inundated with visits to place signs on our lawn and support the candidate.
For me it is really simple. I do not labor over who to vote for , waste my time on debates or even long economic platforms because concerning that issue I just don't believe anyone is better than the other. No I vote with really only one real thought in mind.Which party will not openly move the country further away from the truth of the Bible.
Now before you think I want to force Christian morals , I recognize that you cannot . Sinners we are all , and the only thing that will change a heart dead in sin is the gospel of Jesus Christ but at the same time , laws that govern us help keep evil at bay. Laws against murder, stealing etc.. help stop these evils ,for those who break them know they will be punished , and that is a deterrent .
The deal breakers for me are the hidden sins that fly under the radar. The first is abortion . The fact that a we close our eyes to the silent murder of more than 100000 babies each year , sickens me. Most of these children killed are done so not for any other reason than they are not convenient . The fact that even if one cent of my tax dollars has been used to supply this evil service , makes me very angry. So any party that would seek to widen and increase easy access is off my list . So eliminate the Liberals ,NDP and Green Party. All support for wider access.
The second deals with the redefining of marriage.Historically marriage has always been seen as a sacred institution , given to us by God . Blessed by Him and between a man and woman. It was for the sake that between the two they would enjoy God's gift of sex but also for pro-creation. The two married people would have children and form a unit . This made for a stable society. But in Canada this was struck down and gay marriage has been openly allowed. Although as of right now people of faith( not only Christians hold that this is sinful)can dissent in marrying gay couples , the fact there is a push to silence those who hold that it is sinful and against God's created order , disturbs me. For how long will this be . Those who hold to the Christian faith , and the truth of the Bible need to call all sin , sin and that includes homosexuality. It is a sin that needs to be repented of and like I have said before , not the only sexual sin but it is called out specifically. So once again any party that will not re-look at this issue is out . So the same list applies.
Perhaps some believers can vote for a candidate that supports and pushes for more acceptance of both these issues , but I will be honest , I cannot fathom how.
Verse Of The Day : [9] Behold, the day of the LORD comes,
cruel, with wrath and fierce anger,
to make the land a desolation
and to destroy its sinners from it.
(Isaiah 13:9 ESV)

Thoughts and Opinions of a sinner saved by grace 1 Timothy 1:15 The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.

Guess I'm Not Good at Math
One thing I admit , math was never one of my strong suits. Perhaps to a degree it was my lack of effort , which I confess . However the other thing , my math teachers were as boring as watching paint dry . Except for grade 9.That year my math teacher rocked and I had my best year. Too bad he didn't continue on .
So it seems that now we have to add mathematicians in the list who are lining up to say religion or God in the western world is coming to an end. Using data from census forms and the decline in those who affiliate with a community of faith , they mathematically calculated that in many countries , religion or faith in God will vanish. Canada , my country is on the list.
Now I have to admit , from all I have read and even those within my little sphere of influence , faith in God, going to Church are on the bottom of most peoples list. They spend more time watching fictional shows and talking about them , sleeping in on Sundays , reading fiction and paying no heed to any real deep thoughts concerning life, death and life's meaning. That is the way it is.
Even within those who attend Christian services ,its clear from studies, many go for moral instruction or out of of a social construct and have a very shallow understanding. It has even been said about Evangelicals that it is a thousand miles wide and 2 inches deep. However at the same time , over the last few years there has emerged a hunger and movement of young reformed minded Christians and there are many Churches growing and evangelizing.
So then what really does this type of study tell us. Well 2+2=4 in real math but this type of statistical analysis is wrought with speculation. People are not hard numbers only and many things can occur rather quickly to . change the flow of human emotions and thought . So it can only predict based on past trends . Second it cannot take into account the movement of God in an awakening. During history ,countries have experienced a amazing outpouring of the Holy Spirit through the preached word and changed that countries whole dynamic. So even though I'm sure the atheist and haters of God are clapping , they better wait a bit.
Plus with all do respect to mathematicians and their studies of stats , I will put my confidence in this promise over their speculation . Jesus had this to say , [18] And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. (Matthew 16:18 ESV)
Jesus promised that not even the gates of hell can cause His church to fail . With this promise in hand and the gospel that needs to be shared with a dying and sinful world , we should not look at this study defeated but looking at it as a opportunity . Jesus said the fields are white unto harvest but the laborers few . So lets raise the banner of the cross , share the gospel and pray for revival .
So when I do the math , I see God on His throne till Jesus comes to renew all things and that is a win , win . Sorry math guys .
Verse Of The Day : [9] Awake, awake, put on strength,
O arm of the LORD;
awake, as in days of old,
the generations of long ago.
Was it not you who cut Rahab in pieces,
who pierced the dragon?
(Isaiah 51:9 ESV)

I Will Not Presume on God
Today was my brothers surgery for a very painful condition that causes seizures in his brain and triggers intense pain into his face. It is called the suicide condition because it is so debilitating. So I'm very thankful to God that the surgery went well and all appears well.
But as I waited and checked later on some Facebook posts , I thought how much we presume on God that He will always come through . That our illness or surgery will have a good outcome or perfect result. We presume that God is obligated to give us what we think is the right . We can pray that things will go well or healing but ultimately , God's will be done.
But what we can say , if one is a Christian then no matter happens , we are secure in the arms of Christ. What Jesus did on the cross and rising from dead was put an end to sins tyranny and deaths dominion .We are redeemed by His blood and given the hope of eternal life. All the promises of scripture are grounded in Christ and His work.
Even Paul said that it would be better to go and be with Christ but if he was given more life , it was to do the will of the Father and preach Christ. We simply cannot know how things will go when facing major illnesses or surgery even if we confess Christ.
When my wife was diagnosed with Cancer , we did not claim any health and wealth foolishness. But held onto the promises of God in Christ that nothing could separate us from the Love of God . Anyone who reads scripture knows that death and suffering are not absent from God's people . Why this is so , we cannot truly know completely but we do not have a Saviour that was removed from the reality of pain, grief and sorrow. He suffered and died in our place that we might have life in Him.
This should give us confidence we can still go before God and pray for good things to happen and even plead our case but in the end , we must trust in God that whatever waters we are in are for a purpose.
So I will not presume God regarding health, wealth or success. But what I will trust are His promises . On those I will stand. So I'm thankful that God in His mercy and grace spared my wife and now my brother , blessed be the name of our God. Amen.
Verse Of The Day : [15] Though he slay me, I will hope in him;
yet I will argue my ways to his face.

New Appreciation
After seeing Geoff Moore live with Steven Curtis Chapman , I have a whole new appreciation for this mans music. I always liked his music and his gruff but powerful vocal style but after seeing him perform ,the man has one strong set of pipes . This song is one he co wrote with Steven and one of my favorites. Enjoy.

Nothing To Say
Sometimes one needs to know when they have nothing to say and today is one of those days, the end.
Verse Of The Day : Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;

Catechism Friday
Heidelberg Catechism (1576 A.D.)
41. Q. Why was he buried?
A. His burial testified that He had really died.[1]
42. Q. Since Christ has died for us, why do we still have to die?
A. Our death is not a payment for our sins, but it puts an end to sin and is an entrance into eternal life.[1]
43. Q. What further benefit do we receive from Christ's sacrifice and death on the cross?
A. Through Christ's death our old nature is crucified, put to death, and buried with Him,[1] so that the evil desires of the flesh may no longer reign in us,[2] but that we may offer ourselves to Him as a sacrifice of thankfulness.[3]
44. Q. Why is there added: He descended into hell?
A. In my greatest sorrows and temptations I may be assured and comforted that my Lord Jesus Christ, by His unspeakable anguish, pain, terror, and agony, which He endured throughout all His sufferings[1] but especially on the cross, has delivered me from the anguish and torment of hell.[2]
45. Q. How does Christ's resurrection benefit us?
A. First, by His resurrection He has overcome death, so that He could make us share in the righteousness which He had obtained for us by His death.[1] Second, by His power we too are raised up to a new life.[2] Third, Christ's resurrection is to us a sure pledge of our glorious resurrection.[3]

46. Q. What do you confess when you say, He ascended into heaven?
A. That Christ, before the eyes of His disciples, was taken up from the earth into heaven,[1] and that He is there for our benefit[2] until He comes again to judge the living and the dead.[3]

47. Q. Is Christ, then, not with us until the end of the world, as He has promised us?[1]
A. Christ is true man and true God. With respect to His human nature He is no longer on earth,[2] but with respect to His divinity, majesty, grace, and Spirit He is never absent from us.[3]

18 Years Worth the Wait
March 23rd , 2011 I took my spot front row , just to right from center stage. The wait of almost 18 years of was about to end , as I was going to experience an evening with Steven Curtis Chapman. So as I lights went dim , out came as MC , Steven Curtis Chapman. A quick introduction and hello to his Canadian fans , he framed the evening the audience was about have .He had a very natural and warm way , as if you just invited a friend into your house . Then he introduced his sons band Caleb and so started the evening . Caleb performed 4 songs and with Calab Chapman on guitar and Will Chapman on drums . They were tight and Caleb has a excellent voice and song writing skills. The last song Steven came out and joined his sons band to finish off a excellent song called We Will Wait. Short and tight set .
Then the night stated off with Steven playing Dive . His boys doing double duty on drums and guitar with another friend and member of Caleb on bass, guitar and drums at times. Steven was energetic,in fine vocal form and gave us fans a taste of his whole career . From More To This Life,Speechless,I Will Be Here etc... all reworked a bit. The new arrangements breathed new life into these favorites .
During the first half Geoff Moore , a long time friend, artist and co-writer of many of Stevens songs joined him for many songs . The banter between the two was funny and very natural. Geoff Moore then did a brief set list and featured 2 new tunes. Man can he sing. The pipes he has are strong . Then after Steven came back out did a song again , it was a time for a brief break.
Then the second half kicked off with many old favorites . He blended both high energy and slower numbers . In between songs he shared stories of his family , his journey of faith and shared many laughs. The show ended with a few popular worship songs and a old hymn refrain , It Is Well , then amped up with Live Out Loud. Then taking a bow , left the stage.
The audience continued to cheer even as the house lights and music came on . Finally he came back out and with only him and his boys played a encore on the cuff . Then taking a final bow , the evening ended at 10:30.
Personal Thoughts : This was indeed a evening with SCC. It felt like he was coming into your house and playing for his friends. It was all I hoped it would be and it was great to have my sons, brother and his wife to share the evening. His sincerity and honesty was real . He shared the story of the tragedy in his family not to get sympathy but to share with others who are suffering as well. He called all to trust in the goodness of God, to lean on Jesus , to embrace the gospel even amid pain and trouble. We prayed as an audience twice , and what impressed me , he was very aware, that yes we were all there to see him , but more importantly , God should be glorified and Steven pointed to the one who is the Lord of the Dance and to the One who should be our Magnificent Obsession. It was a very worshipful time that was fun ,poignant and joyful . Thanks Steven for a great night that truly blessed me , as I hope we blessed you, as we thanked you for your songs that have ministered to our hearts. Now lets saddle up our horses , we have a trail to blaze!
This Concert Gets my 10 guitar picks out of 10 . Awesome.

Verse Of The Day : [6] Remember your mercy, O LORD, and your steadfast love,
for they have been from of old.
[7] Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions;
according to your steadfast love remember me,

SCC Week
I have Waited to see Steven Curtis Chapman since I first picked up his cassette For The Sake of the Call at the local Christian Bookstore. I was instantly hooked . So after March 23rd ,Lord willing , I will have pictures and a review of his concert in Moncton,NB. Looking forward to it just a bit .
And now a little Martin Luther concerning the gift of music.
"I, Doctor Martin Luther, wish all lovers of the unshackled art of music grace and peace from God the Father and from our Lord Jesus Christ! I truly desire that all Christians would love and regard as worthy the lovely gift of music, which is a precious, worthy, and costly treasure given to mankind by God. The riches of music are so excellent and so precious that words fail me whenever I attempt to discuss and describe them.... In summa, next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world. It controls our thoughts, minds, hearts, and spirits... Our dear fathers and prophets did not desire without reason that music be always used in the churches. Hence, we have so many songs and psalms. This precious gift has been given to man alone that he might thereby remind himself that God has created man for the express purpose of praising and extolling God. However, when man's natural musical ability is whetted and polished to the extent that it becomes an art, then do we note with great surprise the great and perfect wisdom of God in music, which is, after all, His product and His gift; we marvel when we hear music in which one voice sings a simple melody, while three, four, or five other voices play and trip lustily around the voice that sings its simple melody and adorn this simple melody wonderfully with artistic musical effects, thus reminding us of a heavenly dance, where all meet in a spirit of friendliness, caress and embrace. A person who gives this some thought and yet does not regard music as a marvelous creation of God, must be a clodhopper indeed and does not deserve to be called a human being; he should be permitted to hear nothing but the braying of asses and the grunting of hogs." - Martin Luther |
Verse Of The Day : [101:1] I will sing of steadfast love and justice;
to you, O LORD, I will make music.

Be On Watch
Upon arriving in the Church parking lot today , I grabbed my Bible and headed off across the parking lot . It was sunny and crisp , a beautiful morning. Not even paying attention as I walked , suspecting no hidden dangers , I proceed to plant my foot on a piece of black ice and did a split that someone my age should not do. If it hadn't been for my oldest son , who I grabbed onto , my bum would have been on the ground.
I was feeling a bit stupid and then we had a bit of a chuckle. Granted it could have been more serious . I could have sprained something or broke a leg. However no harm was done and next time I will be more aware of my footing.
It did get me thinking about sin and the situations we as Christians can find ourselves in .If I had have been paying attention to my surroundings and had made a better choice in placing my foot as I walked ,I would have not done a figure skating move. How often do we make the same choices when it comes to life. Placing ourselves in situations that could lead us into a place we should not be. It could be form watching TV,listening to music , reading certain books , whatever medium , if we are not discerning and conscious of what we are exposing ourselves to , it can lead to a slip or fall .It may not be gross heinous sin but perhaps it may lay the foothold to a subtle drift . Very rarely do we fall before taking steps first in that direction.
[8] Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
(1 Peter 5:8 ESV)
This warning in Peter is what I'm getting at. Peter talking to Christians who were under attack and persecution, reminds them to be acutely aware ,that the Devil looks for opportunities to attack. To be watchful is to be keen on looking for the enemy and the activities that could lead to temptation or a fall. Often when life is not going the way we think it should , we can be looking for escape. Even in times of great ease , it can still come but take on a different form.
I cannot tell you what you should watch, listen to or do for all of us have our own weaknesses. Yes there are certain things that are no brainers like pornography, casinos and raze style clubs but many other things are dependent on the individual. But the general call is for all of us who call ourselves a follower of Jesus Christ,to be aware . Does this activity undermine our own growth in holiness and service to our Lord. May we all help each other and stir one another up, in love to be able to see our surroundings clearer.
Verse Of The Day : [23] You who fear the LORD, praise him!
All you offspring of Jacob, glorify him,
and stand in awe of him, all you offspring of Israel!
(Psalm 22:23 ESV)

How Blessed We Are
This song by Mercy Me reminded me of how precious the word of God is. How spoiled we are to be able to go to countless stores and purchase numerous translations in our own language. Look around at your Church this coming Sunday and see how many brought their Bible. There are people in countries who treasure the Word. Do we ?
In history saints have died to preach the word faithfully, to translate it in the common language and to possess it. Its sad and tragic that so many even within our Churches do not believe the Bible is the very word of God.This even gets worse with those under 30 . Wonder how they would stand in the day of persecution? If you don't treasure something , then usually you will not be willing to die for it.
Verse Of The Day : [8] The grass withers, the flower fades,
but the word of our God will stand forever.
(Isaiah 40:8 ESV)

Catechism Friday
Heidelberg Catechism (1576 A.D.)
35. Q. What do you confess when you say: He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary?
A. The eternal Son of God, who is and remains true and eternal God,[1] took upon Himself true human nature from the flesh and blood of the virgin Mary,[2] through the working of the Holy Spirit.[3] Thus He is also the true seed of David,[4] and like His brothers in every respect,[5] yet without sin.[6]
[1] John 1:1; 10:30-36; Rom. 1:3; 9:5; Col. 1:15-17; I John 5:20. [2] Matt. 1:18-23; John 1:14; Gal. 4:4; Heb. 2:14. [3] Luke 1:35. [4] II Sam. 7:12-16; Ps. 132:11; Matt. 1:1; Luke 1:32; Rom. 1:3. [5] Phil. 2:7; Heb. 2:17. [6] Heb. 4:15; 7:26, 27.
36. Q. What benefit do you receive from the holy conception and birth of Christ?
A. He is our Mediator,[1] and with His innocence and perfect holiness covers, in the sight of God, my sin, in which I was conceived and born.[2]
37. Q. What do you confess when you say that He suffered?
A. During all the time He lived on earth, but especially at the end, Christ bore in body and soul the wrath of God against the sin of the whole human race.[1] Thus, by His suffering, as the only atoning sacrifice,[2] He has redeemed our body and soul from everlasting damnation,[3] and obtained for us the grace of God, righteousness, and eternal life.[4]

38. Q. Why did He suffer under Pontius Pilate as judge?
A. Though innocent, Christ was condemned by an earthly judge,[1] and so He freed us from the severe judgment of God that was to fall on us.[2]
39. Q. Does it have a special meaning that Christ was crucified and did not die in a different way?
A. Yes. Thereby I am assured that He took upon Himself the curse which lay on me, for a crucified one was cursed by God.[1]
[1] Deut. 21:23; Gal. 3:13.
40. Q. Why was it necessary for Christ to humble Himself even unto death?
A. Because of the justice and truth of God[1] satisfaction for our sins could be made in no other way than by the death of the Son of God.[2]

God is Indeed Love , Holy Love That is
One thing we must never divorce is God's absolute holiness from His love. If we make a statement that God is love ,we must make clear in radiates from a character that is perfect ,holy, righteous and that is without blemish . Therefore the love of God is consistent with a burning wrath against all sin and is completely compatible with His love. The love that He has showed is demonstrated perfectly on the cross. When the God the Father , gave the Son and laid the wrath towards our sin upon Him and made Him who knew no sin ,to be sin for us. That is love ,that is grace .
Jesus is the lamb , the Saviour of all who will repent , turn from sin and cling to the promise of the gospel , that Jesus laid down His life for His sheep . What a great love that goes beyond words to describe it . The King of Kings in my place , so that I may be called a child of God . Unbelievable the depths of His mercy and grace.
Verse Of The Day : [8] but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. [9] Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. [10] For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. [11] More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

Easter Needs Some New Tunes
I love Christmas music .The hymns and the carols are magical and awe inspiring. But along with the old , many new albums have been released over the last 40 years that have added new songs and put some cool twist on old songs.
That can not be said for Easter. Yes there are many great hymns but where are the contemporary new artist or albums that celebrate the risen Lord. The fact without Christ risen , we have no faith .So where is the same new inspiration to write about this great truth.
Well the good news is there are 2 new albums that I hope to purchase over the next few weeks . One is a new album by the Sovereign Grace Music group . The new album is simple called Risen and is comprised of all new songs focused on the what Jesus accomplished on the cross and in His resurrection. Having sampled the songs , they are a combo of both up-tempo and more reflective ballads. Sure it will be an excellent piece of music for helping focus on the message of Easter.
Another is from artist David Potter called Man of Sorrow Glorious King. This one gathers together older hymns that are cross centered and puts a bit of a new twist on them . He even adds some new verses to compliment the classics featured. It happens to feature one of my favorites , There is a Fountain .
So it is nice to see both of them being released before Easter. The way I look at it , why should Christmas get all the good music.
Verse Of The Day :
[101:1] I will sing of steadfast love and justice;
to you, O LORD, I will make music.

Learning To Keep Your Mouth Shut
One of the most insidious things that human beings do to each other is gossip and slander. It is verbal violence that attacks the character . The sad news we have all played part in this verbal dance of garbage. Making judgments without all the facts or wanting to assassinate someones character by thinking we know the motives behind what they have done or said. But the fact is most of the time we can't know the full truth or have all the facts on any situation.
How I have been guilty of this. Making sweeping judgments on others and not showing the benefit of the doubt or showing grace or extending forgiveness. In Romans 1:29-30 both gossip and slander are listed as some of the traits of those who are unrighteous, evil and are deserving of death. Is that not an indictment for us to be very careful with our words against another. Should we not check our lips before they speak. Do you find yourself being carried along with the tongue of another . I know I have and it is to my shame .
We must refrain from this evil that destroys friendships, causes strife and makes judgments that we should be very careful of making about others. That is why even those charged in the courts still need to have a day in court. For even though one may be guilty , usually the stories behind the scenes have been so colored that the truth is missing.
If we are around the water cooler or in a group be it in Church , the coffee shop or wherever and it begins with the innocent , did you hear , may we refuse to participate and recall the warning of scripture. Reminding others that God does not take lightly this evil speech. It is a cancer within the Church and anywhere it is allowed to flourish .
Verse Of The Day :
[6] Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.
(Colossians 4:6 ESV)

Puts Things Into Perspective
When you read about the lock out of NFL players (most all very well paid) and then watch your hockey team lose a pivotal game that more or less makes their playoffs hopes all but gone, it could leave one a bit bummed. I have always enjoyed sports and played some. For many men they live vicariously through sports . Its highs when they win and lows with a loss. I used to be one of those "guys". This year I have prayed that God would help me in viewing sports in a balanced manor.
When things like what has happened in Japan occur , it should truly put into perspective what role sports should play in ones life . It is nothing more than entertainment . Ultimately it has no real impact on my life. If my team loses so what. Its not life or death . But what unfolds around us everyday should impact us. When someone around us is hurting , when a disaster like the one in Japan happens ,these are the things that matter .
My heart truly goes out to the people of Japan . May we awake to what matters in life and keep those things that really do not have any true ties to our lives , in there proper place.
Verse Of The Day :
“All flesh is like grass
and all its glory like the flower of grass.
The grass withers,
and the flower falls,
[25] but the word of the Lord remains forever.”
And this word is the good news that was preached to you.
(1 Peter 1:24-25 ESV)

Peace Amid The Storm
A song for the people affected in Japan. The earthquake and tsunami that has devastated numerous coastal areas is a potent reminded of two things , the frailty of life and a day is coming that will make these events pale in comparison. As Christians we need to pray for the people of Japan , respond to their material needs if we have means but we must at the same time , with compassion ,point the lost to Christ.
Events like these make people think and question . May we be ready to answer for the hope within us even amid calamity .
Verse Of The Day : [7] I form light and create darkness,
I make well-being and create calamity,
I am the LORD, who does all these things.

Catechism Friday
Heidelberg Catechism (1576 A.D.)
29. Q. Why is the Son of God called Jesus, that is, Saviour?
A. Because He saves us from all our sins,[1] and because salvation is not to be sought or found in anyone else.[2]
30. Q. Do those believe in the only Saviour Jesus who seek their salvation and well-being from saints, in themselves, or anywhere else?
A. No. Though they boast of Him in words, they in fact deny the only Saviour Jesus.[1] For one of two things must be true: either Jesus is not a complete Saviour, or those who by true faith accept this Saviour must find in Him all that is necessary for their salvation.[2]
31. Q. Why is He called Christ, that is, Anointed?
A. Because He has been ordained by God the Father, and anointed with the Holy Spirit,[1] to be our chief Prophet and Teacher,[2] who has fully revealed to us the secret counsel and will of God concerning our redemption;[3] our only High Priest,[4] who by the one sacrifice of His body has redeemed us,[5] and who continually intercedes for us before the Father;[6] and our eternal King,[7] who governs us by His Word and Spirit, and who defends and preserves us in the redemption obtained for us.[8]
[1] Ps. 45:7 (Heb. 1:9); Is. 61:1 (Luke 4:18; Luke 3:21, 22. [2] Deut. 18:15 (Acts 3:22). [3] John 1:18; 15:15. [4]Ps. 110:4 (Heb. 7:17). [5] Heb. 9:12; 10:11-14. [6] Rom. 8:34; Heb. 9:24; I John 2:1. [7] Zach. 9:9; (Matt. 21:5);Luke 1:33. [8] Matt. 28:18-20; John 10:28; Rev. 12:10, 11.
32. Q. Why are you called a Christian?
A. Because I am a member of Christ by faith[1] and thus share in His anointing,[2] so that I may as prophet confess His Name,[3] as priest present myself a living sacrifice of thankfulness to Him,[4] and as king fight with a free and good conscience against sin and the devil in this life,[5] and hereafter reign with Him eternally over all creatures.[6]
[1] I Cor. 12:12-27. [2] Joel 2:28 (Acts 2:17); I John 2:27. [3] Matt. 10:32; Rom 10:9, 10; Heb. 13:15. [4] Rom. 12:1; I Pet. 2:5, 9. [5] Gal. 5:16, 17; Eph. 6:11; I Tim. 1:18, 19. [6] Matt. 25:34; II Tim. 2:12.
33. Q. Why is He called God's only begotten Son, since we also are children of God?
A. Because Christ alone is the eternal, natural Son of God.[1] We, however, are children of God by adoption, through grace, for Christ's sake.[2]
[1] John 1:1-3, 14, 18; 3:16; Rom. 8:32; Heb. 1; I John 4:9. [2] John 1:12; Rom. 8:14-17; Gal. 4:6; Eph. 1:5, 6.
34. Q. Why do you call Him our Lord?
A. Because He has ransomed us, body and soul,[1] from all our sins, not with silver or gold but with His precious blood,[2] and has freed us from all the power of the devil to make us His own possession.[3]

Odds and Ends and Around the Bend
Hells Bells - Rob Bell one the hip, cool emergent types of "new" pastors who like dialog, has caused a stir with a book about hell or what appears to be the lack of hell. I tried to read a bit of his stuff a while back and he really turned me off with some of his statements. In Velvet Jesus he more or less makes the virgin birth out to be optional and that pretty much made my mind up about this guys teaching. The gospel he expounds is not biblical period. The sad news is in this post modern , your truth is your truth not mine , it has invaded the Church. Is he a heretic ? If it quakes like a duck and acts like a duck , do the math. If he isn't one ,then at the very least he is in need of correction.
The Sheen is gone - Unless one is living under a rock ,the meltdown of Charlie Sheen ,one of the top paid TV actors for the hit comedy Two and a Half Men , has been everywhere. He has been seen and speaking or should I say ranting to the media. His behavior is one of a man out of control and full of his own ego .As one article commented he is only acting out his world view. I'am my own "god". I'm my own law , I'm bigger than you all. Is that not a fulfilling of what Paul says in Romans 1 , giving the rejecter of God over to ones own lust and depravity. Sheen needs the gospel , just like you and I . We are not different than Sheen , when we were in a state of unbelief . Pray for him instead of laughing at him . Truly sad.
Going ,Going Gone - A former place of employment is closing . Even though I did not leave on very good terms , I did have many a good time before it went sour. It was the best job I ever had in some ways and the worst at the same time. It was a music store , so with all the downloading and change in the industry over the last 10 years it is not surprising. Some charge illegal downloading is the main culprit but numerous studies have shown that in general people who torrent the most , buy more music than those who don't. Plus last year a study showed the 10 most torrented movies were all box office giants and sold well when released on DVD. So that is too simplistic. I have my theories that I may share sometime. But that will be another time. When I was between 12 and 20 , I loved going each week to the local record store to see what new albums where out. Cool times , different times and good memories.
Horton's Magnum Opus - Started to read through Michael Horton's Systematic Theology and it reads really well. I find his style of writing very engaging and clear.Looking forward to sections concerning creation, justification and last things. Now only 980 pages to go . No problem.
Verse Of The Day : [20] For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
(Romans 1:20 ESV)

We All Need A Sam
Are there not days or times in ones life that you are totally broken, worn and weary . This world is a not an easy place to live. Even in the west , people can and do feel the sting of disease ,death and poverty. Homelessness is on the rise , foodbanks and being used like never before and life can seem to spin out of control. Even a Christian is not immune . That is why we all need a Sam in our lives .To correct us , to encourage and carry you when you simply cannot seem to muster the strength to go on.
One of the blessings of a good marriage is your spouse can be your "Sam".I will say I have a "Sam" in my life and for that I'm truly thankful.
Verse Of The Day : [2] Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

This Made Me Laugh and Remember
This video has gone viral. I can see why,its hilarious. Children are such a gift. With my boys now becoming men , I look back and cherish those times when they were little. Time moves so fast it seems ,one minute your rocking them and making them laugh doing stupid little things like tearing paper to make them laugh, the next they are moving on and making their way in the world. I'm very proud of the men my son's are growing into and thank God for the blessing they have been in our lives.
Verse Of The Day : [16] But Jesus called them to him, saying, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. [17] Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.”

No Fluke
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
(Genesis 1:1 ESV)
When you rise in the morning , go through your day and lay down to sleep at night , do you just pause for a second that the air you breathed , the wind you felt and the beauty of the earth is no fluke . The whole universe is not a cosmic joke , accident or a random thing that just happened. You are not a walking ,evolved piece of walking tissue with no purpose or reason for being.
God created all we see. God created man in His image . God gave us life . We owe Him all. May we mediate on these truths . To understand more , may we pick up and read His word . May we read His story for it never gets old.
Verse Of The Day : O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
(Psalm 8:9 ESV)

Catechism Friday
Yesterday I touched on the need for Pastors to defend and out heretics or faulty theology. Perhaps within Baptist circles ( I speak of general Baptist not our Reformed Baptist brethren who actually make teaching real theology a priority ) if we would use Catechisms to teach , the Bell's of the world would have a harder time in deceiving. So lets continue our pilgrimage into some solid teaching.
Heidelberg Catechism (1576 A.D.)
25. Q. Since there is only one God,[1] why do you speak of three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit?
A. Because God has so revealed Himself in His Word[2] that these three distinct persons are the one, true, eternal God.
[1] Deut. 6:4; Is. 44:6; 45:5; I Cor. 8:4, 6. [2] Gen. 1:2, 3; Is. 61:1; 63:8-10; Matt. 3:16, 17; 28:18, 19; Luke 4:18;John 14:26; 15:26; II Cor. 13:14; Gal. 4:6; Tit. 3:5, 6. God the Father and Our Creation
26. Q. What do you believe when you say: I believe in God the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth?
A. That the eternal Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who out of nothing created heaven and earth and all that is in them,[1] and who still upholds and governs them by His eternal counsel and providence,[2] is, for the sake of Christ His Son, my God and my Father.[3] In Him I trust so completely as to have no doubt that He will provide me with all things necessary for body and soul,[4] and will also turn to my good whatever adversity He sends me in this life of sorrow.[5] He is able to do so as almighty God,[6] and willing also as a faithful Father.[7]
[1] Gen. 1 and 2; Ex. 20:11; Job 38 and 39; Ps. 33:6; Is. 44:24; Acts 4:24; 14:15. [2] Ps. 104:27-30; Matt. 6:30;10:29; Eph. 1:11. [3] John 1:12, 13; Rom. 8:15, 16; Gal. 4:4-7; Eph. 1:5. 27. Q. What do you understand by the providence of God?
A. God's providence is His almighty and ever present power,[1] whereby, as with His hand, He still upholds heaven and earth and all creatures,[2] and so governs them that leaf and blade, rain and drought, fruitful and barren years, food and drink, health and sickness, riches and poverty,[3] indeed, all things, come not by chance[4] but by His fatherly hand.[5]

28. Q. What does it benefit us to know that God has created all things and still upholds them by His providence?
A. We can be patient in adversity,[1] thankful in prosperity,[2] and with a view to the future we can have a firm confidence in our faithful God and Father that no creature shall separate us from His love;[3] for all creatures are so completely in His hand that without His will they cannot so much as move.[4]
