The Month of Love

February is the month of love. With Valentines day fast approaching , men will be running around a couple of days before the 14th to buy what usually amounts to a vast waste of money. Not that buying your wife or girlfriend a gift is bad but most guys will really not have a clue what they should purchase for their other half. Sure they will buy they will buy the chocolates , the lingerie,the flowers and take her to dine out . Then they will think that they have paid their dues for the year.

Now anyone who knows my wife and I would think this would be a big day for us .Honestly it is a really underwhelming day. We have never really gone overboard.

For me a man should be showing his wife how much he loves her all year long. Showing her on a daily basis that she is the jewel in his life. Listen to what God's word has to say .


[25] Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, [26] that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, [27] so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. [28] In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. [29] For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, [30] because we are members of his body. [31] “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” [32] This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. [33] However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

A husband is responsible for his wifes spiritual well being and be willing lay his life down. He is to be her protector , he is to love her as  Christ loved the Church. Just let that one sink in for a second. To love our wives as our own bodies , that implies we are to be giving,listening,gentle, passionate,caring and serving . For do we not want those same things. Since we are one flesh to do any harm to her is harming ourselves. This type of love is not reserved for one day , but each day.

Now no one will be perfect each day, in any relationship there will be days that have ups and downs. However men need to man up not by buying gifts one day a year but by showing their wives a year long pursuit of love. Pray each day that the Holy Spirit will help you love your wife more in a Christ like manner. Then see what will happen . It might just surprise you.
