Word Up Old Man
Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained in a righteous life.
(Proverbs 16:31 ESV)
For everyone who is getting older and feeling the adverse effects , in this youth obsessed culture , this passage should offer all of us some peace. We cannot alter the fact we live a linear life. From the point of conception we begin to age. Growing up , probably every generation thought that the older generation was lame. But in God's eyes , those with age were to be respected and given honor. To disrespect your elders was punishable . How far we have come.
Even within the Church we marginalize the old. Separating them into their own little segment. for some reason we think that just because they are old , they don't recall the same struggles and thoughts younger people have. You also hear the line , well how could they understand what I'm going through. But the fact is struggles with sin and doubt were the same 2000 years ago as they are today.
They need to be heard and listened to. They know the pains of life , the grace of our Lord and the reality of the battle we are in with the flesh, the world and the devil. The more we segment the church in groups like youth, singles, married and not truly come together as one body , we miss out on so much .
so if you get up this morning and find a few more gray hairs or less hair ( or no hair ), then know that God has blessed you with long life , and many lessons . Find a way to share your trust in Jesus , that has carried you through many ups and downs. The aged have something to say , may God give us ears to hear and them a door to open .

It's a crown of glory, as scripture says. However, I shall continue to touch mine up. OK, more than a little touch up.
Seriously, in the salon business, guess who is the new demographic (or primary market)? The segment of society that used to feel the most marginalized. That is, women who are 60+. So, if the multi-million dollar Hair Business can see their importance financially, why can't the Church see their importance, as well? Before you shrug them off, spend a little time getting to know them. You just might learn something. Love you, Mrs Reg
