Lord's Day or No Day

Today was the Lord's day or as some have called it the Christian Sabbath . The early Church began to gather on  Sunday , as opposed to the Jewish Sabbath on Saturday. The reason being it is the day our Lord was raised form the dead and with that action , heralded in a new beginning.  The question that has been forming in my mind, how are we to view the concept of 6 days and 1 day of rest. Does it still hold any significance and is the Lord's day really a Christian sabbath? I haven't formed a clear answer yet. It is a interesting topic that many have tried to answer .

I cannot say that my mind is made up . Should we still view as a holy day , set apart to matters of the Lord or because of what Christ has done , now that he is our rest , has it shifted to something more . Someday I will try and put forth my conclusions . Far greater minds than mine have done so in the past but that should never stop anyone from reading scripture and using what has been written before, to draw ones own conclusions as long as they do not move towards heresy.

[8] “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. [9] Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, [10] but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. [11] For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

I believe the original purpose was to protect us from our own greed and from that of our employers. Sunday shopping, anyone? Somebodies got to man that store. After all, if the omnipotent, immortal, eternal Creator of the Universe took a day off, what makes us think we don't need one? It wasn't like He hadn't been busy and using His time productively. We need to get over ourselves.
Genesis 2:1-3 says "Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation."
Now you know Darling that I think you're a very smart man. But, sometimes the right answer is the obvious one. Especially, when it's staring you in the face. love you, Mrs Reg
