Taming of the Tongue .....

Proverbs 10 : 19 When words are many, transgression is not lacking,
               but whoever restrains his lips is prudent.

Growing up as I hit my teen years , my mouth could get me in trouble and I do mean trouble. I didn't really swear a lot , but I could be very nasty when arguing . I would take no prisoners. My other weakness had to do with exaggerating when telling a story . I didn't do it all the time and even when I did , the core was true . My tongue was not a clean thing .

  1. After becoming a Christian it was one of the things I was convicted over. But I have to honest , it has not been easy. As Proverbs points out , when we talk too much , speak when we really should remain silent , transgression or sin will follow . My mouth has been tamed greatly over the last 2 years but it is still a struggle at times. My focus has been to be slow to speak , measuring my words with grace and purpose. If you suffer the same problem, confess each day and ask God to convict you of whatever form of speech is unfit. For its a heart problem , a sin problem. As I focus on Christ and ask the Holy Spirit to change my heart , what proceeds from my mouth is changing.
Communication is a wonderful gift from God . Hearing my wife say I love you or sharing a coffee with a friend and talking about life , laughing etc.. But it can also tear down, condemn , lie , blaspheme and destroy . So repent and   let the Holy Spirit change your heart , and let God's word so fill the soul that we become conformed to Christ and tame the tongue .

Valentines Day,,,,

So tomorrow is the day for love. The day for romance and telling your wife or husband how much they mean to you. So tomorrow I will make sure to let my wife know how much she  means to me.

She has been an amazing wife. When I look back before I met her , I wondered if I would ever find the one. It has been a delight to love her . We have been through much over the last couple of years with her cancer and the life changing event that can be . But God has shown grace upon grace. She has always been my love but now she is my hero.

I would lay down my life for her in a heartbeat. I pray I can be a godly husband the rest of our earthly life.

Kathy your are a wonderful wife and I cannot thank God enough each day for giving you to me. I love you more now than ever before.

Sorry , I Don't Get It

So the Olympics are set to begin this Friday and all of Canada is in a dizzy. Now I respect the work and the dedication of the athletes to perform . The time and sacrifice to get to this level is staggering. No denying that.However for me, as I have read over and over ,the amount of money getting spent and on the tax payers dole, kinda makes me sick.

I just don't believe in these games . The amount of money , spent from over tax dollars is ridiculous. In fact if you can believe what has been said , the games do not make the money back and often leaves the sponsor city and country paying off the debt for a long time.

So I will not be doing any flag waving or jumping up and down . I just don't get it I guess.

The Beast Within .......

Jekyll and Hyde or the Wolfman , illustrate the idea that within each individual lives or exist an evil that if given the right circumstances, can and will rear its head.  Granted these are horror icons, but they  also point to the biblical concept that we are sinners , that at our core we are so corrupted by sin, that we have within us the ability to do great evil.
“None is righteous, no, not one;
11 no one understands;
no one seeks for God.
12 All have turned aside; together they have become worthless;
no one does good,
not even one.”
13 “Their throat is an open grave;
they use their tongues to deceive.”
“The venom of asps is under their lips.”
14 “Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.”
15 “Their feet are swift to shed blood;
16 in their paths are ruin and misery,
17 and the way of peace they have not known.”
18 “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”

Paul in Romans 3, describes the condition of mankind . That no one is righteous  as they stand before a holy God who demands holiness to be in His presence. Not a concept a man likes to admit. We grade always on a curve.We are not as bad as a the next guy and we can always find someone we are better than . But in reality as much as we would not like to admit it ,we are closer to Hitler than we would like to admit. I know my own heart and it scares me at times . What hope would I have apart from Christ who is my righteousness and by redeeming me , is in the process of putting to death the old man , my Hyde, day by day.

Reggies Reading Corner

Reading a good book is something I have always loved. When I was a teenager it was mainly Stephen King. The first book was Salems Lot and that hooked me. I kept reading King till he moved away from horror in the eighties. Salems Lot remains one of my favorites along with The Stand .

Since becoming a Christian I have leaned towards theology,history and biographies. But recentlly I have been wanting to start reading books just for fun again. So over the course of this year I plan on adding to my reading list books just for enjoyment. They don't have to be Christian , I don't buy into that whole scene .

So first on my list is  The Road by Cormac McCarthy. It has been  made into a movie starring Viggo Mortenson. After reading it I will put up a brief review.

So I'm looking forward to reading again for enjoyment. Although my selections will probably be  more serious but that is just me.

So Why the Fuss

Well the Super Bowl is history , New Orleans won and the Tebow ad ran without the world coming to an end. It was a very non threatening and  didn't even mention abortion.

So after all is said and done , why the fuss. Once again it had to do with truth. When the evil of abortion is mentioned or implied in anyway , those who support this genocide reveal their true colors.

My thoughts on the commercial , it was well done and injected a little humor . It was understated and only linked to the bigger story . So if someone wanted to dig deeper they can . It didn't point fingers or was too preachy but at the same time it was clear about choosing life. It would have been nice if it had a bit more teeth but it was a little victory . That I will take .

So I give the commercial a field goal , not quite a touch down.

Bowled Over

So the biggest sports event on the earth is soon to dawn on us,the Super Bowl. No question it is hands down the most unique of all championships. The commercials themselves at half time are worth tuning into. They  are creative and fun.

But this year one is causing much controversy and has some liberal groups in a fit. Plus it has nothing to do about sex. Focus on the Family , an Evangelical ministry , has bought time to air a pro life spot featuring Tim Tebrow , a former all-star quarterback for the Florida Gators. All through his college career he has been a very out spoken Christian .

The add features the fact how his mom was told that perhaps the baby would not make it to term or if the baby did , he or she would be severely sick. Needless to say Tebrow's parents , devout believers put their trust in God. Needless to say the rest is history.

So out of the wood work come abortion right advocates ,planned parenthood and even gay advocacy figures saying that CBS should not be airing this religious and political message. They are mad.

But here is the thing that gets me. Its less than a minute , tastefully done and is not overtly preachy. So why the fuss. We have free speech . During the regular week of TV scheduling we have shows that preach a world view contrary to a biblical one. It promotes free sex, pro-choice , homosexuality as normal , usually pokes fun at Christianity , well you get the picture. So why are they so mad ? Truth . Plain and simple when darkness is exposed to light it recoils and will show its evil .

Abortion is an evil . It is murder and it is wrong. We are amazingly and wonderfully made. God is the author of life . If this commercial saves even one child , then it has done a great thing.

Psalm 139:13
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb.

Shaking Things Up

After thinking about just shutting down this blog of mine , I decided to re-think it and do what I intended at the start. Write about things that get me going , be they either good or bad.

They will be through Christian world view but I will not pull punches . That is the way I'm . Some might not like what I'll write but so be it . It will not be nasty or rude but it might be a bit in your face. Maybe that's the reason I like Martin Luther so much . He was never known for his diplomacy .

So welcome and hopefully this will get my writing juices going .
